Fly fishing has been Steve’s passion for since 1997. He is a licensed State of Arizona fishing guide and has spent 26 years specializing in hosted trips. Although it wasn’t until his late 20’s when he first touched a fly rod, the path to learning and exploring so many aspects of fly fishing was like watching one of the many Fast and Furious movies.
An Arizona native, Steve quickly became immersed in the Arizona fly fishing community by joining the Desert Fly Casters, becoming the president of the club in a few short years. Meeting helpful fly-fishing friends, it wasn’t long before he was working part-time in valley fly shops, speaking around the state, teaching schools and ultimately hosting group trips throughout the Southwest and around the world.
Moving on to the next level, Steve was a founding partner of Nomada Fly Fish and the hosted-trip business quickly boomed. Within three years, Steve had expanded his relationships with lodges, outfitters and guides around the world, taking clients to some of the best fly-fishing destinations. Unwilling to rest on success, using his experience from years of fly-fishing travel and establishing himself as a well-respected member of the fly-fishing industry, Destinations Fly Fish became a reality.
Today as the Owner/Operator of Destinations Fly Fish, Steve continues to push fly-fishing travel to the next level. Clients always at the front of mind, Steve remains on the hunt for that next great trip location. When he is not hosting trips, you’ll find him teaching fly-fishing classes, doing speaking engagements, or helping at the local club or fly shop events. Taking the time to help teach fly fishing at Boy Scout camp every summer is a priority.

He enjoys fishing across the state of Arizona, including sunfish and bass in the local reservoirs, striped bass and smallmouth in the Colorado river reservoirs, grass carp in the canals and local ponds, and trout on the Mogollon Rim and in the White Mountains.
Further afield, he has branched out by doing multiple self-guided float trips on remote Alaskan rivers, kick boat trips to Rocky Point, Mexico, and annual trips to Colorado, Wyoming and Montana. Since retiring in 2020, he has been busy spending his children's inheritance by seeking exotic species like marlin, dorado, tuna and roosterfish in Mexico, peacock bass in Brazil, and golden dorado in Argentina.
Joe has also been a long-term member of the Desert Fly Casters club in Phoenix. He has held the roles of president, vice-president, and programs, and is currently in charge of outings for the club. He is also a long-term member of the White Mountains Lakes Foundation (WMLF) which has the mission to improve the fishing in the White Mountains. Darren likes to fish in saltwater, freshwater, or any water! His fishing adventures have taken him from Alaska to Mexico, Hawaii, as well as all over the Southwest. He has been part of the Yakutat crew since 2019 and loves to connect with Coho Salmon on a fly rod.
He was formerly an Arizona Game and Fish employee whom traveled extensively all over Arizona to stock lakes and streams, and has fished the state from the desert lakes to high elevations on the Mogillon Rim and the White Mountains in eastern AZ. Fly fishing is but one tool in his box for connecting with aquatic quarry. From giant Bluefin Tuna in the Pacific to Yellow Bass at Apache Lake, he enjoys catching all species.
“Fishing with Steve and Destinations Fly Fish has been a blast. Sharing the travel and fishing experience with like minded people is very rewarding. I have made some friends that I can’t wait to fish with on any trip.”
Steve is always willing to chat. Send a message and he'll get back to you!
