The Golden Dorado has become one of the most sought after species in fly fishing. Travel with Destinations to the Bolivian jungle for the chance at landing the Golden Dorado of a lifetime.
The Secure river is born in the confluence of the Nutusama and Cascarillas streams. Along its first sectors the river goes from north to south moreover, between the Mosetenes and the Eva Eva mountains. It’s one of the tributaries of the Mamoré river, which runs to the Madeira river, one of the main tributaries of the Amazon itself.
The Secure river here is extremely beautiful with crystal clear waters, wedged among mountains and pristine jungle. This fishery allows anglers an extremely close and exciting contact with the jungle. The means of transportation are handmade Chiman wood dugout canoes (cuambas) powered by pushing poles or engines, but the fishing is 100% wet wading, with many chances for sight casting. On the higher Sécure section there are dorado over 30 pounds, many of them residents. There are also a lot of pacu, moturo, surubi and yatorana, which are excellent species for practicing different fishing techniques. Upstream from the lodge, there’s two small tributaries (The Ashahana and the Maniquicito creeks) which hold really big dorado in tiny crystal clear waters.
The middle sector of the Sécure River runs downstream from the Lodge to the Ushwea Village. This section of the river is shallow and open, with sand flats and log structures, similar to the rivers further down on the plain regions. Its clear waters gradually becomes sandy due to tributaries that sweep sediments from the high plateau. The logs, sunken trees and subsurface structure are the perfect ambush points for a large number of dorado.
The Sécure Lodge experience is centered around one very comfortable jungle lodge, built entirely from sustainable wood cut from the nearby jungle. The lodge has just been renovated and anglers now have individual cabins with private baths with hot water. Each cabin has full electricity and wifi is available. Daily laundry service is also included in your stay.

This equipment selection covers a range of fishing scenarios, from different rod weights for versatility to various lines suitable for different water conditions.
Always ensure that your equipment is in good condition before the trip, and consider checking with Destinations to see if there are any specific recommendations or requirements for the fishing conditions you'll encounter in Bolivia. Happy fishing!
Tipping? This is probably our number one question. Tipping is definitely recommended and the standard is 15-20% of the cost of the trip. Typically you would tip your guide at the end of each day. If you are going to have the same guide for several days, you can arrange to tip them at the end.
It is also customary to tip the lodge staff at the end of a stay. 15-20% is standard and left with the lodge to split among the staff.
We love our customers, see you on the water!
