Jurassic Lake Lodge, Patagonia Argentina

The Trip

Exclusive Amazing Argentina

Some of us have heard the stories of Rainbow Trout approaching and exceeding 20 pounds!  Jurassic Lake in the Patagonia region of Argentina is the place to make it happen.  Jurassic Lake Lodge is a remote and exclusive lodge perched on the banks of Lago Strobel, A.K.A, Jurassic Lake.

Jurassic Lake is the primer destination for anglers seeking a world-class rainbow trout fishing experience. Located in the rugged Patagonian wilderness of Southern Argentina, this high-altitude desert lake is the most prolific rainbow trout fishery in the world.

The lake's cold, deep waters are home to massive populations of scuds (small freshwater crustaceans) and other aquatic insects. This abundance of food supports rapid growth of the trout, with some reaching the 20 pound class in a relatively short period of time.

How do you like to fish?

Anglers can use streamers, dry flies, nymphs, and scud patterns, with floating lines being the most common choice. Occasionally, sinking lines or sink tips are effective too.  Stripping a mouse, if the conditions are right, not out of the question.  Sometimes, you can just cast at the trout you see cruising the shoreline in front of you.

The lake's remoteness means minimal fishing pressure and little natural predation, creating ideal conditions for thriving trout populations.

Where we Stay

Jurassic Lake Lodge

Jurassic Lake Lodge boasts a stunning location where the Barrancoso River meets Strobel Lake, providing unmatched access to one of the world’s top trophy rainbow trout fisheries.  You can walk to any of the four fishing beats in just a few minutes to catch the biggest rainbow of your life.

The lodge has very well appointed rooms and several that look directly onto the lake and river.  At times, just looking out the window, you may even see your fellow lodge guest hooked into a giant rainbow. Each room has full electricity and a nice hot tile shower to start or finish your day.

Just steps from your room, you will find an awesome wet room for getting in and out of your waders. Benches, boot racks, wader and jacket hooks.  It doesn't get much better than this.

A few additional steps from your room, you'll find the dining and main lodge area.  Large comfortable seating, exceptional views from the newly renovated common area and a warm wood stove to keep the temperature just right.  Settle in with the right beverage and a few good friends before and after a delicious meal prepared by the staff.  You are so close to the fishing that you even get to head back to the lodge for a hot lunch and quick break before the afternoon fishing session.  The only thing missing is the big fish stories.

Tipping?  This is probably our number one question. Tipping is definitely recommended and the standard is 12-15% of the cost of the trip.  On the last evening of the trip, you will be provided with an envelope for your tips.  The tip is distributed among the guides and lodge staff by the management.  Rest assured that your guides and the staff are all working hard and receive an appropriate ratio of the tip.
